JULIA KESTER
Visual Arts Educator and Artist
Welcome to my portfolio! This site was created to share my work in the field of art education. Please explore the pages to view lesson plans, student work, and more.
Hello! My name is Julia, and I am from Commack, New York. I have been passionate about art for as long as I can remember. From an early age, I was drawn to creative expression in all forms, always seeking opportunities to imagine and create art.
In 2018, I moved to New York City to study Production Design at Pace University. During and after college, I gained valuable experience working in the art departments of film and television productions, contributing to theatrical scenic design, and helping create immersive installation art for restaurants and retail spaces throughout the city.
While I loved working in these creative industries, I realized something was missing: a true sense of support and encouragement for artists. That realization inspired me to shift paths and step into education. I wanted to create the kind of environment I once wished for. One that uplifts young artists, nurtures creativity, and validates everyone's unique artistic voice.
Today, I am proud to be part of the field of visual art education. I've earned my Masters degree in Art Education from Brooklyn College and I have had the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with inspiring art educators across the New York area. My teaching philosophy is rooted in designing engaging, original lessons that encourage exploration, creative problem-solving, and artistic risk-taking. I strive to create a student-centered classroom where collaboration is encouraged, skills are developed through meaningful hands-on experiences, and every student’s voice and unique perspective are valued.
